better than I thought I would with an 8/10, but it still just pulled down my
average.

I'm not sure why you're not getting the email, but I've heard of it happening to others too, and then it just sort of starts working. No, you don't have to be in a team. You're automatically under me, and then if you pass on the link in your nonexistent email to someone else, then you start forming a group of your own.
